Casual cruelty has always been a staple of cartoons and Odd-Fish is no exception!
From the early Disney shorts, some of which could be really quite vicious, to the slapstick spanging of Tom and Jerry.
At least with a starfish I have the excuse that, as far as anyone's been able to tell, starfish cannot actually feel pain making today's strip a little incongruous. But as I've said before, Octopuses don't talk and certainly don't decorate Christmas trees, so what's a little inaccuracy like a starfish complaining about pine needles up its bum compared to that?
Incidentally, apologies to James Turner of the wonderful but sadly frozen Beaver & Steve for the use of his trademark phrase "Oh the unimaginable pain!" Kudos, Jim.
