Clownfish 22nd October 2008I've had the idea for this strip for quite some time but until now have not done it for the simple reason that it's become impossible to draw a clownfish without someone mentioning Pixar's Finding Nemo. In fact Howard was originally going to be a clownfish instead of a puffer but it proved to be impossible to draw him without obvious Nemo echoes. I had a similar problem the couple of times I've used sharks in Odd-Fish. It's very difficult to not be compared to the sharks in Finding Nemo and there's very little room for manoeuvre in how you can draw a shark to look different from Pixar's designs. Again, this is why I don't use sharks very often in Odd-Fish. Curse you Pixar and your perfect optimal character designs!Update Saturday 25th October 2008 There will be no Odd-fish update this week. This morning we noticed that Ziggy's rapidly growing tumour seemed to be giving him worsening trouble so we took him to the vet. The vet confirmed that the tumour has pushed his shoulder out of joint and was impeding on this chest cavity giving him labored breathing. In short, he was distressed and in pain so we made the decision to end his suffering. Pray that you never have to look into a loved pet's big trusting eyes and make that decision while they purr and rub against your hand. It's the hardest thing I've ever done. But that's not all. Yesterday morning we came downstairs to find our little elderly tabby cat, Harley had died in her sleep overnight. No warning, just a stiff, cold little curled up body in her favourite place on top of the microwave when I went into the kitchen to make my morning cuppa. Two in two days, that's just not fair. So I'm sure you'll forgive me if I'm not quite in the right frame of mind right now to make with the funny. Sorry for the downer.
Odd-Fish will be back 31st October. Halloween!.
